Electrician

Electricians progress through three l evels of training: Apprentice, Journeyperson, and Master Electrician. In the US and Canada, apprentices earn reduced wages while learning the trade through a combination of on-the-job experience and several hundred hours of classroom instruction. They typically follow a structured apprenticeship program lasting three to six years, during which they are paid a percentage of a Journeyperson's wage. Journeypersons are electricians who have completed their apprenticeship and have been certied as competent by local, state, or national licensing authorities. Master Electricians, the highest level, have extensive experience in the eld, often seven to ten years, and have passed a rigorous exam demonstrating advanced knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC).
